Lucy Toseland 603 FMP FINAL OUTCOMES
For my FMP, I have adapted two classic 19th Century novels into character design development sheets for animation. One intended for TV Series Animation and the other an Animated Film adaptation.
I chose Oliver Twist as my book to re-imagine for a TV Animated Series. This means the style will be more graphic and bold.
Originally published in 1838 following the story of a young orphan who travelled to London and meets a gang of juvenile pickpockets.
I decided to convey my adaptation TV Series Animation at a younger audience and present the characters as British woodland animals to push my character design portfolio. Also, to add more design and context elements, I have presented the re-imagination in the Steam-Punk genre as its is a Victorian/Dystopian Fantasy mix.
Here is the Full Lineup including (from left to right) Oliver Twist, Bill Sikes, Fagin, The Artful Dodger and Nancy.
Throughout this section you will see a collection of development sheets for each character such as full line art designs, coloured designs, turnarounds, mouth charts and also props.
They are layout as if these sheets were being used professionally and referred to by an animator at a studio for continuity.
Oliver Twist & Little Women
Little Women
Oliver Twist
I chose Little Women as my second book to re-imagine for a Film Animation Adaptation. This means the style will be more developmental, conceptual and more detailed.
Originally published in 1868, Little Women follows the coming of age story of the March sisters.
I wanted to diversify my portfolio therefore, I re-imagined the sisters as 90's black women focusing on their core personalities through posing but also time period and cultural accuracy.
Here is the full character lineup depicting(left to right) Meg March, Jo march, Beth March and Amy March.
Throughout this section, you will see developmental sheets showing each characters full design with zoomed in details, design sheets from concept sketches through the creation stage to finalised character and GIF's of the creation process.
Each character has a sketch layer, line art, block colour, details, texture, shadowing/highlighting, coloured line art and grain. This creates an overall look of depth and detail.
